Sony has released updated firmware for its NEX-3 and NEX-5 single-lens direct view cameras which adds a new 3D Sweep Panorama function, as promised when the cameras were launched back in May 2010. The new firmware also makes a few corrections to other areas of the cameras' operation. Power consumption when the cameras are turned off is said to have been reduced, and the stitching accuracy of sweep panoramas with large areas of low or variable subject detail (such as the sea or sky) has been improved.
