Google acquires Picnik

Internet giant Google Inc. has acquired online image editing service Picnik Inc., according to posts on both of the companies' respective blogs. Seattle-based Picnik was first founded in 2005, and recently announced that it had passed a landmark billion edited photos. The company has around twenty employees, and offers both free and paid image editing services.

Canon 5D Mark II: New firmware imminent

Canon USA has announced that it will shortly be providing updated firmware for its EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR. Canon EOS 5D Mark II firmware v2.0.3 will make the camera better suited for filmmaking courtesy of several tweaks to the video and audio capabilities of the camera. The 30 frames per second video rate will be replaced by a 29.97 frames per second rate, and there will also be a new 24 frames per second rate, both matching TV production standards.
